Disagree without leaving the room

Há quem diga / pense / ache que… lets you quote a view without owning it. Hedges: talvez, se calhar, diria que, em certa medida. Concession: percebo, admito, é verdade, mas… You stay in the conversation. That is fluency more than vocabulary.

• Há quem diga que Lisboa já não é para quem cá vive.

  Some people say Lisbon is no longer for those who live here.

• Diria que sim, em certa medida.

  I'd say so, to some extent.

• Percebo, mas não estou de acordo.

  I see that, but I don't agree.
